Kailen smirked, "Hey that was only a moment of tard-ness. I hope things go back to normal soon. I mean working in this place isn't that bad. But I felt better when I was scouting up top for stuff we need. I felt more....useful I guess. Even if my Dad makes me go with a chaperone," he said grimacing at the thought of being babysat like he was only a child. "And you can use your feet when I'm not around..." he said as he watched her shake her hair out, and lost his train of thought for a second, and then muttered, "I hope I'm around often." Breaking off a piece of her KitKat bar and popping it into his mouth and tilted his head, "So when your lab privileges are given back, any ideas what your going to be working on next? Or returning to work on?"

Katya snickered. "Well, 'a moment of tardness' comes every so often, and if you put them all together, then maybe you'd have a whole human life-span worth of them, so I think I can call you a tard without crossing any lines of exaggeration," she told Kailen, watching his face closely to make sure she hadn't lost him in her explanation, and also for his reaction. "Things'll go back to normal soon enough, you can't deny that we deserved this, though I still consider it worth it," she assured him, smiling lightly at him. "A chaperone? At least you'll still get to go aboveground. I doubt I'll be allowed to go up again unless I sneak away... again. Gee, you're such a bad influence," she teased, but only for a moment because she didn't like the way he phrased 'I hope I'm around often'. "You're not planning on leaving, are you? You just got here!" she protested, throwing her arms around him and hugging him tightly and not even commenting on him stealing her chocolate, which was an obvious 'no-no'. "Um... don't laugh at me," she told him when he asked what she wanted to work on next. "I want to work on eliminating the super gene," she said, knowing it sounded impossible, especially since she still hadn't successfully figured out how to help Liam yet.

Kailen stared at her as she spoke, "Wait so I'm a tard?" he asked, scratching his head. "But I got decent grades in school..." he said while his eyebrows knitted together, but then shrugged. "As long as you can date a tard, I'm fine with it. And I'm not risking your life above ground again," he replied shaking his head. Wrapping his arms around her and looking up into her face, "Well I was going to volunteer for more of the dangerous missions, mostly because I have more experience with being above ground, and I've been going through extensive fight training with Aunt Icis. But if you don't want me to go, I wont," he said looking her in the eye, letting her know he was completely sincere.
"Your going to try to eliminate the super gene!!!" he asked, his eyes growing wide, "I'd never laugh at that, because I trust in your abilities. I mean...someone made the super gene, why couldn't it be unmade?"

Katya nodded enthusiastically when Kailen asked if he was a tard, and she couldn't help grinning as he tried to make sense of it. "No worries, Kai, I'm perfectly fine being with you," she assured him, laying her head against his shoulder for a moment. "You're 'not risking' my life? Who says this is up to you?" she asked, determination flashing in her eyes. Now that she had a taste of the freedom being aboveground brought, no matter how frightening the experience was, she knew she would try to go back up again... even if Kailen wasn't with her. She was the daughter of one of the coven leaders, she had connections. Even if she couldn't pull any strings, she was certain she would be able to convince Liam to take her. She realised she had fallen into a lapse of quietness, and saw too late that Kailen was waiting for an answer from her. "You don't need my permission to go. You do what you think you have to do. I trust you, but, so help me, if anything happens to you, I'll find a way to bring you back and make you sorry that you had even stepped foot up there," she threatened, her gaze holding his steady. At his exclamation, she found herself ducking a bit in embarrassment. "I don't even know if the possibility is plausible... I just think it's worth a try. It'll give us a pretty large step in throwing the government through a loop if it works, though," she whispered, her tiny smile almost hopeful. She then shook her head. "I'll need to run it by Emmy first to see if she likes it before we go to my father, though. It's his say on whether we take on projects or not."

"Kit..." Kailen muttered, his voice plagued with exasperation. "I just meant I'm not sneaking you up there again, not without weapons at least. I won't put you in that kid f danger if I can help it," he said looking into her eyes. "I wont try to keep you from going up there, but I would like it better if you were as safe as possible. Wether it's me, one of the combatants, or even your brother or dad," he said with a shrug. He breathed a sigh of relief when she said he could take the more dangerous missions up top. Having been fully sincere when he said he wouldn't go if she asked him to, honestly he really wanted to do the missions. He felt it was the best he could do to help, especially since he knew he would never be as smart as Kit or her family. "Hey, you never know until you try.... How does one even begin to reverse a gene?"

Katya glanced at Kailen when she heard his tone. She didn't mean to make him exasperated, but she wasn't going to be one of those sit-at-home girlfriends who couldn't do anything because they wanted to please their boyfriends whims. Of course, she understood the danger of going aboveground, but all the other halvies risked themselves for the good of the coven, why couldn't she? She bit her lip, averting her gaze because her answer came to her just as she thoought it. The coven did need her... underground. She needed to help her family help him, like she's always done. She leaned against Kailen's shoulder, saddened by this news, but her expression was schooled so she didn't look quiet so troubled. "You don't have to worry. I can't do anything too risky anyway," she assured him, wrapping her arms around one of his. They knew their places in the coven and what they were needed to do, and she was glad that they understood that. "I don't know, exactly. That's why I need to ask Emmy first. She'll help me."

Kailen lapsed into a bout of silence as he thought about Katya's situation. She did what was needed of the coven, but he also thought she deserved some freedom too. "Whenever you need a bit of freedom, just let me know. I'll always help you Kit, always," he said brushing her hair off her cheek lightly. Looking down at her he knew he could never deny her anything she wanted. And now he understood how his mom had had his dad wrapped around her finger.
