She had been running for days now, and her legs were tired. But she still felt that if she didn't run, if she stopped to take a breath at any time before she reached her goal, death would certainly come after her. She had lost track of time, running through the odd hours of the day and night, to put them off her trail, but finally, after weeks of tracking the place down and asking some probably very dangerous questions, she found the gigantic castle looming up beyond the path up the hill. Checking her surroundings, she bounded up the pathway in the rain, towards the glowing lights of the building in the dark, and, now breathless, almost collapsed at the doorstep as she frantically took the knocker in her hand, trying to get someone's attention.
(me and Nyx decided to drop the plot we had ^^; so this has nothing to do with it *alsoeditedherbioyes...*)

Merik had just left his office moments before he heard the knocker on the castle door spazzing. He eyed it curiously, wondering why whoever was making it do that hadn't just walked inside yet, so he made his way closer very slowly. Wishing for the life of him that they had a peep hole on the door and figuring he may as well have one installed sometime soon, he took a hold of a handle and pulled one of the massive doors open. "Assessing the situation: Girl, tired and half drowned, trying to pull off my door knocker. Conclusion: She must be hungry. Come in, come in! We'll feed, clothe, and rest you up!" he assured, pulling the door open wider and looping an arm around her shoulders to help her inside.

When the light from the door spilled out onto the steps of the castle, Adelina gave a watery smile of relief, but as Merik began speak, and she saw who it was, her mouth turned into a confused line. She didn't know if she had come to the right place. After all the person she was looking for didn't seem to be in her eye sight. And she had never heard of the person in front of her either, and he did seem to be in charge. Even more so was his odd way of speaking. All it sounded to her was mumbled words through radio static or something like that. "Chi sono voi? D-dove stiamo andando? ..... Fa q-qualcuno dal nome di Stefan in ten-n-nsione qui? … Per-r favore?" she squeaked, shivering as the warm air from inside the castle touched her soaked clothing.
(Translation: Who are you? Where are we going?.....Does someone by the name of Stefan live here?...Please?)

Sid was right behind Merik. She had followed him on tiptoe when she'd seen him passing in a hall. She was trying to see how long it would take him before he realized he was being stalked. She had conveniently forgotten that Merik was probably perfectly aware of her because of her heartbeat, breathing, and emotions. When she heard Adelina, curiosity overcame her game and she poked her head around his elbow to peer at the soaked girl. "Huh?" she said, her confused expression mirroring Adelina's. "What language is that? Spanish? German?"

Merik wasn't expecting Adelina to speak in any language other than English, so when he heard her stuttered stream of questions, he was hard pressed not to stare at her incredulously. Shaking away his shock, he smiled at her briefly and looked to Sid. "I think it's Italian," he replied, having caught the main gist of what she was asking. Turning his eyes on the ceiling for a moment as he wracked his brain for what remained of his knowledge of the language, he answered Adelina as best as he could in a severely broken attempt at Italian, which he hadn't studied in over a century. "Merik, e questa è la mia casa," he introduced himself, taking off his jacket and wrapping it around her shoulders for warmth. "Um... Possiamo andare in cucina. Vi è cibo," he enunciated slowly, wondering whether he had gotten the right words or was making himself look like a fool. He hoped he was at least getting the point across. "Vado a vedere se possiamo trovare Stefan... per voi," he finished, looking very sheepish as they finally reached the kitchen. "She asked for Stefan. I might've told her we're going to eat her," he told Sid, twitching his nose and wondering where the best place was to locate said missing person.

Adelina looked even more flustered when yet another person joined in on the scene, speaking the one language she couldn't understand. Sure she had gotten somewhat acclimated to it while she had been traveling, though only the simple sort of things, like directions and the nearest shelter. She hadn't want to spend her limited money on something like a tourist's dictionary.
Merik had spoken in a language that strung together and never seemed to end, and she couldn't pull out a single word from the jumble that she heard. Looking up she breathed in relief as he began to speak in a way she understood. Sure he did sound like a two year old attempting to read Shakespeare, but she could piece together it's simplicity enough to make sense.
Now the way in which he carried himself made sense. She guessed anyone would if they were in charge of a large group of mythical creatures. It came with the territory. Now that she actually had time to think about it, Adelina realized she was starved, and was glad for the suggestion to be escorted to the kitchen, she nodded. "Grazie" she replied quietly, looking down at her thin frame, then back up gratefully. She sighed in relief when they mentioned Stefan, hope returning that she had come to the right place. She held the given jacket close to her, pulling it over her wrists.

"Oh," Sid replied. Her expression, at first one of curiosity, quickly turned into impatience as she listened to the babble of a language completely foreign to her. The only word she knew that she thought might be Italian was 'Ciao.' She followed Merik and Adelina into the kitchen, still curious despite the minor annoyance of not understanding a word spoken. Who was this girl that didn't seem to know any English? She sighed in relief when Merik started talking sense again. That sigh turned into a giggle. "Would you rather bake or boil her? Or maybe we should cut her in half, bake her legs, and boil her top half." She said to Merik without taking her eyes off Adelina. "You decide and I'll find Stefan, I'm sure he's hungry too." With another giggle and a wave, she skipped from the kitchen and headed upstairs. When she reached Stefan's room, she knocked. If he wasn't there, she would try Carter's room, Mel's room, Cassie's room, the library, or she might just start shouting Stefan's name and hope he heard her.

Merik sighed when he felt Adelina's relief wash over him, his expression mimicking hers since he wasn't sure he was doing well enough to reassure her. Smiling now, he motioned for her to sit at the table while he looked for something to feed her. "I'm not sure eating her would be the best way to welcome her here, but that's always an option if we don't find Stefan," he chuckled when Sid suggested actual ways to cook her up so they could eat Adelina. He was glad when Sid volunteered to look for Stefan. He didn't want the girl to have to wait too long for someone she had apparently traveled very far to see. Totally blanking on what he was going to serve her, he turned around looking slightly confused. "Um... Sangue?" he asked, figuring she would at least be comfortable with that, since they were vampires and all. Pulling out a glass, he paused again, looking over his shoulder at her. "Animale?" he asked, pulling out first one container, and then another. "O umano?"

Nodding, though somewhat unsurely, Adelina took the offered seat. She didn't think she'd ever get over the odd feeling of the blood diet, especially since she had never been much of a carnivore in her human days. "Animale, per favore?" She sat in awkward silence after that. She was starting to feel a bit guilty about the burden she was placing on those who had greeted her. Besides, what would happen now that she was finally here?

Sid pressed her ear to Stefan's door when he didn't immediately answer her knocks. As far as she could tell, he wasn't there. Feeling too lazy to go check the room of every person he frequently hung out with, she took a deep lungful of air and yelled, "STEFAAAN! THERE'S A PRETTY GIRL HERE TO SEE YOU! STEFAAAN! COME ON, YOU WON'T LEAVE A PRETTY GIRL WAITING, WILL YOU?" Thinking he might be outside, she opened a window and kept yelling variants of the same basic message.

"Huh? Who, what, when, why, how?" Stefan asked as he turned the corner of the hall so he could get to his room. After talking with Sydney and Mel he went to put his jacket away, but it seemed as if Sid wasn't going to let him in any time soon, as she was blocking the door.

Sid gave him a look. "I just told you who. A pretty girl. What is it with you and pretty girls, anyways? You attract them like preschoolers to a jar of cookies. Now come on, you won't leave her waiting will you?" She marched over to him, grabbed his elbow, turned him towards the stairs, then planted her hands on his back and started trying to shove him in the direction she'd aimed him. "As to what she is, she's a vampire. She just got here ten minutes ago. I assume she's here to see you. She kept saying your name, it was the only thing I understood. How - I think she walked. Or skipped." The window she'd opened blew a strong gust of wind at their backs, as though trying to help Sid.

"Er...I don't know.....and I guess not," Stefan said, still seeming confused as he was pushed in the opposite direction. "Does said girl have a name?"
He wasn't really sure he knew any other vampires outside the castle. Though in recent events he really couldn't trust what he thought anyway. "From what I've heard so far I think skipping is highly unlikely," he added, heading down the stairs.

Merik nodded when Adelina had chosen which blood she would take, and he took proper care to serve it as he would were he getting it ready for himself or Eva. He whistled chipperly as he did so for the sake of keeping things friendly; his natural radar told him that it could get awkward if they let silence take over. He asked for her name as best as he could without mangling the language, setting the glass before her, then turned to arrange a small vegetable tray while they waited on Sid and Stefan. Once done, he took a seat near her, but not too close that he would weird her out. He hadn't wanted to make anything too big, especially if they were finger sandwiches or something because he didn't want to waste them if she didn't want them, seeing as he didn't eat meat.

Sid walked beside him on the stairs, one hand still on his shoulder in case he had any funny ideas about going back upstairs or something. "She never said it as far as I could tell, so I gave her a name," the half-vampire informed him cheerfully, not at all perturbed that she didn't know the girl's name. "I call her Stefan's Pretty Italian Girl, Pretty Girl for short. And how would you know? You haven't even seen her and you're already judging whether she's a skipping person or not." She gasped. "You're...you're skipcist!"
