Anyone who knew Sid might think that she would prefer a bedroom with rainbows on every surface. But that was not the case at all. She liked rainbows just as much as the next person, but not enough to paint her entire room in them. Her favorite color was blue, and that was what her room’s chief color scheme was. Her walls were painted light blue, the curtains over the French doors were turquoise, and her favorite quilt was covered in patterned blue squares. At the foot of her bed, seven and a half square feet ruined the blue theme. Those square feet were taken up by a lidded cage. That cage belonged to Sid’s pet guinea pig, the brown and white Cuppie. She often sat in her dark blue bean bag with Cuppie in her lap, reading a book or talking to one of her friends. In warm months, she would take Cuppie and herself out through her French doors to the tiny balcony on the other side. She loved looking out at the lake and the forest and the sky which was her view. She had several pictures of it, few of which she had done anything with. Her room’s walls were mostly covered in pictures of her mother, father, and friends, not of idyllic scenery.

Sid opened her eyes to semi-darkness. She blinked in confusion, trying to figure out what had woken her. A full bladder, perhaps? Nah. So what, then? Usually she slept quite soundly despite any shenanigans from Ira and the other insomniacs. Cuppie? She rotated underneath her blankets till her face was at the foot of the bed and her legs were at the head, then she pulled up the blankets to peer over the base of the bed at Cuppie's cage. She could see him curled up inside one of his plastic igloos, asleep.
She heard sniffling at her door and her head whipped around so fast she got a crick. Wincing, she rubbed at the spot even as she looked at the intruder. It was a tiny blonde wraith dressed in a lacy white nightgown and clutching an even smaller wraith dressed similiarly. It took her a second to realize that she wasn't looking at two ghosts but a little girl and her doll. "Angel?" she asked softly, seeing tearstains on the child's cheeks. "What's wrong?"
Angel sniffled again and rubbed at her nose with a sleeve. "I had a bad dream," she mumbled.
Sid lifted the edge of her blankets. "C'mere."
Angel came and crawled under the blankets next to Sid, resting her head on the older girl's arm. Sid pulled her blanket over the bed's base and laid her head on it. "Do you want to tell me about it?"
"Everything was red," Angel muttered. "And big monsters were yelling at me. I didn't do anything!" More tears gushed from her eyes.
Sid wrapped her other arm around Angel and pulled her close, murmuring the traditional, "Shh, it's okay, it's okay. Shhh." Eventually Angel's sobs turned into hiccups, and then into light breathing. She had fallen asleep. Sid kissed the top of her head. Soon, the only creature awake in that room was a small brown cavy sniffing around for some hay.

July 18, 2011
Sid was in a dark corridor that looked nothing like the usually well-lit halls of Eastnor Castle. Was she in a secret passage? No, she didn’t recollect doing anything special to get here. She’d just been leaving the library. Maybe they were having a power outage? But that couldn’t be right – she could see the white skin of a vampire quite clearly. She approached him. “Do you have an ability to glow in the dark?” she asked him. He looked at her. His eyes were a bright vivid red, and she knew him. He was her Yoshi. And trapped in his arms was a small girl with a head of golden hair. Her neck hung at an awkward angle. There was something dark on her neck. Sid walked forward to peer more closely. It was red – it was blood. And then the girl opened her eyes and she found herself looking into the face of Angel. And Angel smiled, and her mouth was full of blood. And Yoshi dropped her as though she were nothing and smiled at Sid, his teeth white and gleaming despite the circle of blood around his mouth. His mouth opened impossibly wide and he leaped for Sid herself.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!” Sid screamed, bolting upright in bed. It took her a moment to realize that she was not about to be attacked by Yoshi, that the events she was dreaming about had happened about a year ago. And Angel hadn’t even been involved, heck, she’d still been living in London. Sid slumped back onto her pillows in relief. When she glanced at the clock, she realized it was already eleven in the morning. She decided she was going to try and forget about the dream altogether. What was in the past should stay in the past.
She got up, fed and watered herself, Angel, and her guinea pig, then retreated to her room to open the presents she’d received in the mail. From her Aunt Lomani she got an album full of pictures of her aunt, her cousin Neola, her mother, and the maternal grandparents she’d never met. From her cousin Neola she got a blue t-shirt with the phrase ‘Someone in Chicago Loves Me’ written on it and a pair of purple, blue, and white plaid pj pants. From her dad she got half of a series called The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. Lucy, her dad’s girlfriend, had sent the other half as her own gift. Sally sent her a set of new ponytails, scrunchies, and headbands and one of those kits to streak your own hair with bright colors. And from Angel she got a cute homemade picture of herself and Angel holding hands.
She got dressed in the pajamas from Neola, tied her hair back with a purple scrunchie, and took pictures of herself with Cuppie the piggie and her various presents so that she could put them on her Facebook page later. Then she headed downstairs after closing and locking her door and found Angel in the living room watching Phineas and Ferb. “Thanks for the picture, Ang!” she said brightly, scooping up the young girl and spinning her around. “I’ll keep it forever!”
Angel had not been expecting to be picked up, so she squealed loudly in protest. “Really?” she asked, abruptly stopping the screeching.
“Really,” Sid grinned.
“Good,” Angel decided. She squirmed when Sid still hadn’t put her down. “Let go of me!”
“No. We’re going to run away from the big scary monsters and hide,” Sid said, starting for the door.
“What big scary monsters?” Angel asked in confusion.
“The ones in my head,” Sid answered with unusual solemnity. She carried her bundle of toddler out of the castle.

Kiara was blowing bubbles at Remiel in the front yard. Remiel ran all around, trying to avoid being hit by them. At first he had been all excited and had loved popping the bubbles as they floated over to him, but then he had decided to turn this into a game, which was when he began running all around the yard, giggling happily as his mother chased him with the bubbles. Soon enough he had been cornered against a tree. Kiara kept on walking towards him, holding up the bubbles. "Aha! I've got you now," she said before, instead of blowing bubbles at him, she swept him up into her arms and spun him around, lifting up his shirt and blowing on his tummy afterwards. Remiel squealed with laughter, not having been expecting that. Kiara had been so focused on Remiel that she hadn't noticed that two of her favorite friends had just exited the castle.

"Bubbles!" Angel cried in delight, renewing her squirming even though they were still several feet from Kiara and Remiel.
Sid, instead of letting go of her, ran at her fastest until she stood just behind Kiara, who by then was holding Remiel. Then she set Angel on Kiara's back and leaned over her shoulder herself to plant a kiss on Kiara's cheek. "G'afternoon, lass and lad," she said, assuming a thick British accent.
Angel scrambled up over Kiara's other shoulder and poked Remiel's tummy. "You're fat!" she announced.
"Now, now, Angel, that's a mean thing to say," Sid admonished. "He's portly!"

Kiara had been slightly startled when Angel was suddenly placed on her back and the fast that Angel had just about appeared out of nowhere. As soon as the shock was over though she grinned at the both of them. "Good morning yourself, birthday girl," she said to Sid.
Remiel pouted when Angel poked his tummy and swatted her hand away. "Am not..." he retorted, not going to believe what she said. Kiara saw what was happening and could help but to quietly chuckle. It was always a bit entertaining to watch as they messed with each other.

"It's afternoon," Sid emphasized, pointing at the sun, which was high overhead. "When was the last time you looked at a clock?"
Angel yelped when Remiel swatted her hand. She used the same hand to pinch some of his belly. "Are too!" she retorted.

Kiara glanced up at the sky. "Huh, guess it is afternoon." She hadn't realized how lat it was since she had been running around after Remiel for most f the day so far. He seemed rather energetic today.
"Ouchie! Gelly, you hurt me!" Remiel cried out, continuing to pout. He then poked her in the nose and retorted, "Am not!"

"Yes, yes it is," Sid nodded. She made shifty eyes, then grabbed the bottle of bubbles from the ground by Kiara and backed away with it, unscrewing the cap. She blew bubbles at them.
"No, I didn't!" Angel denied, unaware how painful a pinch could be. She rubbed at her tiny nose when he poked it, but got distracted by the bubbles before she could reply with the customary response. "Bubbles!" she yelled again, swatting at them.

"Did too!" Remiel retorted back, starting to get upset. Although as soon as he saw the bubbles a smile lit up his face again and he laughed, reaching out to them so he could pop them.
Kiara had been about to comfort Remiel so he wouldn't be so upset, but she soon realized that he had grown interested and distracted by the bubbles once again so she decided to play along, not wanting to remind him that he had been upset. She carefully set both of them down on the ground s they could reach the bubbles. "Go get those bubbles!"

Angel obeyed Kiara’s wishes by scrambling up her back further and perching on Kiara’s shoulders. She swatted at the bubbles above her head but missed some of them. With a pout, she stood up on Kiara’s shoulders, clutching her hair with one tight fist, and used the other hand to hit the bubbles she couldn’t reach before.
“Go get those bubbles?” Sid asked in between puffs into the wand. “You’re basically telling them to capture me since I have the bubbles. But no one can catch me, for I am the Almighty Bubulous Bubble!” She blew a lower stream of bubbles at Remiel and Angel.

Remiel, after hearing hi mother's words, stayed on the ground and darted after the bubbles closer to the ground, laughing as he popped all the bubbles that he could possibly reach. "Pop da bubbles!!!!!"
Kiara was amused by both Remiel and Angel's reaction, although she winced a little when Angel grabbed onto a fistful of her hair. She reached up so she cold hod Angel up there instead and gently released the hold Angel had upon her hair. "Careful, Angel. Don't yank all my hair out," she said with a chuckle. At what Sid said she simply laughed and let the children decide on how to react to that.

Sid and Angel played with Kiara and Remiel for a little while longer, but when Angel started complaining that she was hungry, Remiel joined in and they decided to go back to the cottage for a belated lunch. After lunch, Kiara gave Sid a make-your-own scrapbook kit for a present, which Sid liked considering her obsession with pictures of family and friends. They stayed for a little longer, but Angel and Remiel got into a fight after a while because they were both tired, so Sid took Angel back up to the castle.
(Apple gave me the go-ahead on this post.)
