A group sat at one of the longer tables in the mess hall, breakfast on trays before them.
“Long or short version?” asked Stacey Moriarty, apparently about to start a story.
“Short. Please.” That was Eowyn Minor.
“All right. The guy I saw being dragged – “
“Why was he being dragged?”
“Okay, fine, he was being marched. Anyways, I saw him being marched – “
“Why? You didn’t answer that,”
Stacey glared over her cup of orange juice at Eowyn. “Beccause they caught him and were taking him in for questioning. May I continue?”
“No. What was the purpose of him being caught? What did he do wrong?”
Stacey sighed huffily. “I was getting to that. He has an ability, see, where he can put a bunch of people into a single dream and make it seem like reality. That’s what he did to you guys.”
That explained more than it didn’t. “Carry on.”
“So, anyways, his name is Dotan Abramson. Apparently he was doing some sort of experiment on you five. No one could get out of him why he chose you five specifically, except that he wanted people with strong emotional ties to each other. So he did his thing and you all were out like lights. And that’s the short version.”
“How is he being punished?” That came from Sid Santos, her chin propped up on one hand.
“Um,” Stacey scratched the back of her head. “I actually don’t know,” she answered sheepishly. “I’m sure they won’t just let him off the hook, though.”

All throughout he talking around the table Remiel had been sitting next to Angel, refusing to sit anywhere not near her, and had been eating quite a lot. Although he'd been extremely hungry, it was still quite a bit, even for him. Being asleep for a long time had taken a toll on his body, since he hadn't been exercising at all, or eating his regular meals. He was quite a tall guy with a large appetite, so he usually ate a lot.
He was really enjoying the pancakes and sausage and eggs on the plate in front of him, and was already planning to go for a run or do some sort of exercise after a while once he was done. After Stacey had said what his power was, everything sorta just made sense to him. "Hmm...well that does make sense, considering that all that we went through never physically happened," he said, shuddering a little at the thought of it again, before going back to eating his breakfast.

At Remiel’s words, Eowyn’s frown deepened, Sid sighed, and Angel muttered, “Yeah.” For the moment, there was quiet at the table as everyone ruminated. Stacey glanced from face to face, curiosity written all over hers. She opened her mouth as if to ask a question, but shut it when Bob Adams appeared behind Sid. He rested his big hand on her shoulder. “Good to see you out of bed, Mother,” he said with a slight smile.
Sid glanced up at him with a grin. “Glad to be up, Bobby dear. I hope you haven’t been a bad boy in my absence. Have you been eating your vegetables? Have you brushed your teeth twice a day? Have you been practicing safe sex?”
Bob rolled his eyes as Angel cracked up, slapping the table in her mirth. Stacey covered her eyes with her hand and groaned. Eowyn did a small spittake with some blood she’d just drunk.
“Well, at least we know your sense of humor is intact,” Bob said. He patted her shoulder clumsily, then removed his hand. “It’s great to see you all up,” he told the rest of the table at large.
“Trust me, we’re glad to be off our backs,” Eowyn replied, wiping up her mess with a napkin.

Remiel smiled at Bob when he came in, but then went back to eating. Since he had eaten quite a bit now, he had slowed down and took smaller bites, but that still hadn’t helped anything when Sid asked that last question to Bob. He hadn’t been expected to hear that question, so he swallowed some of his food in surprise and began couching slightly for a moment. Once the coughing passed he also cracked up, leaning back in his chair slightly as he did so. After a bit he eventually calmed down and went back to eating while listening to the conversation around them. He nodded at what Eowyn said, not really wanting to talk about what had happened anymore at the moment. It was still a rather sore subject for him, and probably always would be.

“That wasn’t an answer,” Sid informed Bob, smirking. “You’re avoiding my questions.”
“They’re really none of your business.” Bob said firmly. He glanced at Stacey. “Bring a coat, I’m taking you and Ana hunting in the north today.” She nodded, her hand still covering her eyes. He walked off with a wave, heading to a table where a bunch of his friends appeared to be laughing at him.
“Not funny, Sid,” Stacey complained once Bob was gone, removing her hand.
“What are you talking about? That was epic!” Eowyn held her hand up for a high-five, which Sid returned.
“His private life is really none of our business,” Stacey retorted.
“Oh, lighten up, Stace,” Sid said with a roll of her eyes. “It was just a harmless joke. Honestly, you’re starting to sound like Bob himself.”
Stacey scowled. “I am not! I just think your joke was in very bad taste!”
“Let it go,” Eowyn advised her. “It’s no big deal, really. He’s been hearing that kind of stuff from Sid since they first met.”
Stacey scowled at her, but her gaze dropped after a moment. She returned to her eggs.
Angel glanced at Remiel. “What do you want to do after breakfast, since we’ve finally got our freedom?”
“I know what I’m doing,” Sid said, apparently taking the question to include everyone. “I’m going for a long, long walk and I’m not stopping till I drop.”

Remiel idly listened to the conversation around him as he ate. He found the conversation going on around him rather amusing and he chuckled every now and then at something he found funny, but he didn't say anything really. Since have woken, after their reunion, he had barely said anything at all, unless it was really necessary to do so.
When Angel glanced at him and asked him a question he swallowed before shrugging his shoulders slightly. "I dunno, um...would you maybe wanna go on a walk with me?" he asked, giving her the option to say no is she wanted to. He had some things he wanted to ask her that had been in his head, but he wanted to ask then when Angel and he were alone, and not around everyone else, where everyone else would overhead their talk.

“Hey! You stole my idea!” Sid complained, raising her fork as if to stab Remiel with it.
Angel flapped a hand at Sid. “Your idea was to go walking alone. Remmy wants to go walking with me. His idea trumps yours.” She turned back to Remiel. “Sure, I’ll go.” She blushed at a sudden thought and busied herself with her breakfast, letting her hair fall in front of her face.
“I never said I was going alone,” Sid grouched. She turned to Eowyn. “Want to go walking?”
Eowyn raised her eyebrows. “No, you’re not my type. I don’t go for girls who come up with lame ideas.”
“It wasn’t lame! Rem stole it, so it wasn’t lame!”
“He made it better,” Eowyn smirked. “If you want to go walking so bad, why don’t you walk yourself down to the training yard?”
“Where you can outshoot me, outrun me, and outfight me? No, thank you!”
Eowyn shrugged. “Suit yourself. But if you want to go hunting any time in the near future, you better get back in shape.”
Sid gasped. “Are you calling me fat? Is that why you won’t go walking with me?”
Eowyn paused with her fork in midair. “I won’t go walking with you, because I’m going to run to the training yard. Happy?” She stuck her fork in her mouth.

Remiel's eyes widened and he put his hands up as if he was surrendering to Sid, but before he could even say anything, Angel had said something for him, so he didn't respond. He did smile at Angel though before finally saying something. "Great," he said happily in a quiet voice. He started cracking up a bit at what Sid and Eowyn said and continued eating. After a bit he had finished and he leaned back in his chair as he waited for Angel to finish eating, a lazy smile on his face.

Angel had less to eat than Remiel, so she was done a little before him. She grabbed his plate and hers and was about to take Stacey’s too, but Stacey shook her head at her. So she meandered off to the dishwasher in the kitchen. When she returned, she found Sid and Eowyn staring at her. “What?” she asked, but she already knew. The other four had been watching her since they woke up. Even when they appeared to be talking to someone else, they were always glancing at her. It was like they expected her to disappear, like this was all a dream.
“Nothing,” Sid said quickly as Eowyn looked down at her plate. “I was just showing Eowyn how clean the mess hall looks. Doesn’t it look clean?” She elbowed Eowyn when she didn’t get an immediate response.
“Not really.” Eowyn earned herself a glare.
Angel rolled her eyes. “Ready?” she asked of Remiel, feeling guilty for wanting to get away from her friends.

Remiel had also been glancing at her out of the corner of his eye, but felt a little guilty when he heard Angel's response to all the staring at her. He honestly didn't mean to stare, but it just automatically happened, since deep down he really, truly was afraid that she'd suddenly disappear. He had been about to protest to her taking all the plates, not wanting to have her do all of the work, but she was too fast nd had already took the plates, so he had been patiently waiting for her return.
When she asked him if he was ready he smiled and nodded, also a little relieved to get away from everyone, because it'd been so hard lately to find time to talk to Angel when it would be just them, because everyone else was around so much more now. He got up from his chair and waved to them all a goodbye, before turning around and began to walk with Angel to where the front entrance was, his hands resting idly at his sides.

“Goodbye, guys,” Angel said. “Maybe we’ll come by the training yard.” She waved and was half way to the door with Remiel when she heard the screeching of a chair on tiles.
“Wait!” Sid yelled. She ran to Angel and they hugged. No explanation was necessary. “Have a good time with Rem,” Sid said at last, kissing her on the cheek. Angel returned the kiss. When she drew back, she saw Sid’s infamous mischievous grin.
“Don’t – “ she started, but it was too late.
“Angel and Remiel sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!” Sid snickered. She didn’t sing it loudly, but she didn’t need to. Angel felt herself going blood-red. She ran past Remiel and through the door. She was several blocks from headquarters before she slowed down and finally stopped.

Remiel stopped walking at Sid's shout and patiently waited a little ways ahead of them for them to finish their goodbye. He was about to leave with Angel until he heard what sing had been singing quietly. The blood rushed to his cheeks as his eyes widened and he quickly hurried out the door after Angel, having seen her run past him. He wanted to make sure she was alright, and well, just to get away from everyone. They'd been teasing them about this sort of thing for a looong time now, but it's not like it ever helped. Just made them more embarrassed.
He finally caught up to her after a bit, being a little out of breath, since he hadn't exercised in a while. He walked up to her after calming his breathing and looked down at her. He starter to reach out a hand towards her, to brush her hair back behind her ear, but then pulled it back. He wasn't exactly sure what was going on between them anymore, which was one of the things he wanted to talk about. Instead of doing what he'd planned to do he simply just asked,"You alright, Ang?"

Angel turned to him with a start. She hadn’t even realized he was right next to her until he spoke. “Yeah, fine,” she muttered. Her cheeks were still pink. She scuffed a foot along the sidewalk. “I love Sid, but she’s a complete ass sometimes,” she said after a moment, not looking at him. “So, did you want to walk or not?” She finally met his eyes. Hers were steady and clear – she didn’t seem that angry at Sid, simply embarrassed.

Remiel nodded with a laugh at what Angel said, completely agreeing with her. Besides all the questions in his head, now that he wasn't around everyone he was feeling a bit more relaxed and talkative. "Yeah, I know what you mean." When she finally met his eyes, he could see some of the embarrassment in them and he gently nudged her shoulder with his elbow. "But, hey, I mean we should be used to that by now, right?" he asked with a smile, trying to lighten up the mood. At her next question he nodded and gestured for her to start first. He began following after her soon as she did, a content smile on his face. "This is kinda nice," he randomly commented after a bit, having liked all of the quiet around them.

“Yeah,” Angel nodded, half-heartedly swatting at his elbow. She walked ahead of him, gazing about at the city. It looked no different, but she felt a new kind of pleasure at being able to walk about it rather than drifting around as a spirit. She glanced at Remiel when she heard his voice again. “Mhm,” she nodded, unable to think of anything more interesting to say. They were acting quite a bit like an awkward couple of teenagers that had never kissed much in their lives. Which wasn’t the case for either of them. They were hardly innocent children. At that thought, her face slowly warmed again, but with that warmth came a new resolve. She would not live her life halfway anymore. Being ‘dead’ had made her realize what was important to her. She turned about, blocking Remiel’s way. Hesitantly, she wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her cheek against his chest, listening to his heart.
