“That doesn’t sound like English,” Sid said, tilting her head to the side as she looked at the book with fresh eyes. “No wonder I got bored reading just two pages.” She felt Grace shiver under her arm and raised her eyebrows curiously. “Nice to meet you, Grace. I’m Sid or Siddie, whichever. Are you cold?” Without waiting for an answer, she removed her arm and jumped off Grace’s chair, then snatched a blanket off the back of a nearby couch. She draped it over Grace like a tent, then ducked under it to grin at her. “Let’s sing some campfire songs!”

""Well I would, except I don't know any songs" Grace said, making space for Sid.

“Are. You. Serious?” Sid gaped at Grace. “You don’t know any songs? Not even Itsy Bitsy Spider or I’m a Little Teapot or even the Barney Song? You don’t know any?!” She shook her head slowly in shame. “This is a tragedy. Well, we’ll just have to fix that. Wait here!” She jumped out from under the blanket and darted for the computers along one wall. She opened a new window on the computer she’d left running. A few clicks and clacks later, a song began to play on Youtube. “Here comes the sun…Here comes the sun…And I say it’s all right,” Sid warbled along to the opening strains of ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by the Beatles.

Grace crossed her legs and tucked the blanket under her arms as she listened silently to the song. She closed her book and laid it on her lap as she smiled at the rhythm. It was a beautiful song and she liked it a lot. She had heard music but not this kind, at least not for a long while. She sure had been tucked under a rock, literally, since she had always traveled around deserted areas.

The song ended how it had begun. As a grand finale, Sid twirled around and around as she stretched out the last word: "...It's all riiiiiiight!" She suddenly stopped and bowed. "Thank you, thank you!" she said, blowing kisses to Grace and imaginary members of the audience. She came to sit back down on the armrest next to the new girl. "Now you have a song to sing at campfires or karoake night or to the Monokinchians! That is, if the Monokinchians like music. Funny, I've never asked Shya."

Grace clapped animatedly, cheering a bit loud. "What are the Monokinchians?" she asked curious. She hadn't read about them in any books she had read and she was wondering if they were important here. She didn't want to get into trouble or anything.

"Monokinchians are a species as yet undiscovered by humans!" Sid informed her with wide eyes, spreading her arms as though to illustrate just how ignorant humans were. "They are small, furry creatures whose sole purpose in life is to steal fuzzy, sparkly things! So if you own anything fuzzy or sparkly or both, keep a tight hold on it! You never know when a Monokinchian will pop up and try to steal it. Actually, they usually come in large hordes, not as individuals. Anyways, they shouldn't attack us anymore. Shya's their queen, so they have to do what she says. Though I suppose if Shya wanted to attack us with her Monokinchians, she could do that. But I don't think she would unless she felt really evil. Or really bored." Sid paused then only because she was trying to think of anything she might have forgotten about Monokinchians. "My advice to you is to have a weapon of some sort on your person at all times and heed any calls to arms!"

"Oh well...is it really necessary? Like I do have them...loads of them, but I don't like taking them out unless absolutely necessary." Grace said, biting her lip softly.

“You have loads of weapons?” Sid gaped. “All I have is a plastic sword that I use to knock them over the head with. I’m jealous! I suppose you don’t really need to carry a weapon at all times. Goodness knows I don’t lug around my sword everywhere I go. Just be ready to grab a book or rolled up newspaper or something to whack them with. You don’t really have to kill them, just knock them silly.”

"Oh alright, and well yes, considering I had to be in several different wars. The American revolution, the French Revolution, which of course I almost had my head cut off, World War I and II as well as other scrambles. I am better than any soldier I should say, and my curiosity got the best for me, plus it wasn't fair that men got to have all the fun." Grace said smugly. "They aren't here with me, since I do still have to move in.

“And you still have those weapons even though they’re centuries old? Aren’t they rusty? Can you even use them?” Sid inquired. It was quite obvious that she didn’t know much about weapons and maintenance of them. “You remind me of my friend Eowyn. She was in a lot of those wars, I think. I wonder if you ever met her? Two vampire girls in some of the same wars, surely you two should have encountered each other long ago. She went by Philip Minor back then, does that ring a bell?”

"Philip Minor....huh...interesting. Was she Allies or Axis? I was Allies but for some reason it seems familiar...and yes, they do work. Thing is when you practice with them constantly and maintain them, you are ok. Plus I move from place to place so it isnt too big of a collection."

“I honestly don’t know whose side she was on,” Sid answered. “I think she was Allies, though, since she’s American like me. I do know she was only in the first world war, not the second. Ah, that makes sense, I guess,” she nodded about Grace’s weapons explanation. “Let’s see if you two know each other. EOWYN!” she screeched suddenly.
“WHAT?!” Eowyn shouted from somewhere in the recesses of the castle.
“CAN YOU COME TO THE LIBRARY? THERE’S SOMEONE YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN MEETING!”
“WHO?”
“HER NAME’S GRACE. SHE SAID YOUR BOY NAME SOUNDS FAMILIAR.”
“FINE, I'LL COME!”
Sid sat back and grinned at Grace. “She should be here any second.”

Grace shrugged silently, wondering why the name seemed familiar. Why hadn't she known others of her kind before if they had been by her? Weird....

Footsteps were pounding on the next floor, not sounding at all pleased to be summoned in such a manner. A moment later, Eowyn appeared on the balcony that wrapped around the inside of the library. She glanced around, not seeing Sid and the Grace person at first. “This better not be some prank,” she warned. “I don’t have time for it.”
Sid grinned, holding her finger up to her lips to warn Grace to be quiet.
Eowyn noticed that one of the computer screens was glowing. She stalked warily down the stairs and approached the wall of computers. As she rounded a bookshelf, she finally spotted Sid and Grace. “What, no exploding balloons?” the physically thirteen-year-old vampire inquired of Sid with raised eyebrows. “No screaming monsters? Wow, you’re loosing your touch.”
“It’s a library,” Sid replied with a roll of her eyes. “Libraries are supposed to be sanctuaries from such things.” She poked Grace. “This is Grace. Grace, this is Eowyn Minor, formerly Philip Minor.”
