(Remiel was rp’d by Apple. We wrote the first part of this a little while ago and just decided to post it all at once now.)
Remiel was walking along the path, with Angel beside him, just sorta...well, hanging out in a sense. When the conversation seemed to go quiet a few times he started to bring up funny childhood memories that they had shared together to share the silence, and he also talked here and there about his travels over his past seven year's absence. "-And then this one time, I just decided that I would go and hike up Mount Everest. It took time and work but being up that high felt amazing and I felt great by now being able to say I had done it," he said, finishing up another one of his adventurous stories, waiting for her reaction as he smiled.
At the end of Remiel’s latest narrative, Angel turned to him with wide eyes. “You hiked up Mount Everest!” she exclaimed in amazement. “Why didn’t you take me with you? You know that’s always been one of my dreams!” She pouted and crossed her arms, turning about to block his path. “I can’t believe you! You could’ve called me and said, ‘Oh, Angel dear, want to hike up Mount Everest with me?’ I would’ve said yes!” She kicked at his ankle in frustration.
"Whoa whoa whoa," Remiel replied as he held his hands out in front of his as if in surrender, dodging Angel's kick to his ankle. "You know I would have called you, but it just so happened I had misplaced my phone at that time " he said, even though it wasn't actually true, for that situation anyways. He did tend to misplace his phone a lot, just not in that situation. "Plus, you were most likely really far away and you know how fat my interest in activities change. If I had waited too log I would have found something more interesting I wanted to do," he explained, which that part was true about him. If he got too impatient about waiting to do an activity or an adventure he'd just move onto the next one he thought of.
“Excuuuses,” Angel said with a roll of her eyes, turning about with a huff. “If you’d really wanted to, you would’ve found a way to contact me. We live in an age of technology, idiot.” She strode ahead along the path, quickly getting ahead of Remiel. A low-hanging branch got in her way and she ducked under it rather than shove it aside. “I wonder how they keep the trees alive,” she said without looking up, brushing her fingers along the leaves of the branch.
Remiel quickly moved to catch up with her, relieved a bit that she had dropped it, even though Angel called him an idiot. He knew he probably deserved that, but he still stuck his tongue at her nonetheless. When she stopped to admire the tree near her he almost smacked into her, not having expecting her to stop, but quickly stopped himself so he wouldn't run into her. He then admired the tree himself, running his fingers along one of the branches since he was able to reach it. "I honestly don't know," he said with a shrug. "The scientists' solution to that is probably all technical and too complicated to understand," he said with a light chuckle, running a hand through his hair slightly.
“Mhm,” Angel hummed in agreement. She whirled about and continued walking, not looking to see if he was keeping up. She was still peeved at him. Part of it was because she was sick of being cooped up underground. Ever since she had revealed her ability, she had been conscripted into the healer ranks. That meant no going aboveground at all. The other part of it was simply that she wished Remiel hadn’t left them seven years ago in the first place. Or, failing that, she wished she had gone with him. But she had been working as a teacher at the time and hadn’t wanted to leave. She broke into a loping run, soon too far away to see unless he was chasing her.
Remiel had still been distracted by the tree that he almost hadn't seen Angel keep walking. He quickly went and walked to keep up with her and did until she started running. He was confused as to why she was running and quickly tried to keep up with her, since he was a bit behind her. "Hey, Ang! Wait up!" he cried, soon enough catching up to her since he had longer legs then she did. When he caught up to her he quickly ran so he was slightly in front of her and gently grabbed onto her arms to stop her from running and looked down at her. "What happened? Why did you run?" he asked in a curious tone, a hint of worry being able to be heard as well.
Contrary to Remiel’s command, Angel sped up. Her eyes narrowed when he got ahead of her anyways. She jerked her arms out of his grip after she’d stopped. “Nothing happened, stupid,” she snapped, moving around him to stalk off. “There aren’t superhumans down here, remember? I’m perfectly at liberty to run if I want to.” With that, she burst into a sprint again, the smell of freshwater in her nose. Rounding a last corner, she came upon the largest of the ponds in the park. She raced around it till she was on the far side, then dropped onto a bench and stared listlessly into the depths.
Remiel backed off when Angel snapped at him and called him stupid, his eyebrows furrowing a bit. This was the first time in a long while that she'd snapped at him for worrying about her. He watched her run off and decided to give her some space before he tried talking to her. He walked at a steady pace, knowing that she'd be alright physically and that there wasn't any danger nearby. Soon enough though he was able to see her again and saw she was staring out at the water. He soon walked right next to her and stood there a moment, before moving so that he was kneeling in front of her, his pale green eyes staring into her's. "Ang, I may be stupid, but I'm not stupid enough to realize when something's bugging you," he said, trying to maybe at least get a chuckle out of her, although doubting that it would actually work.
"That's right, you aren't," Angel said, turning her face away so that she was staring back at the trees again. She scratched absently at the back of her hand, ignoring him. The sound of bird song filled the air, causing her to focus her eyes as she tried to spot the birds who were singing. It was so much like a real park here. The only giveaway was the lack of blue sky.
Remiel sighed when she decided that she was going to ignore him and turned around and leaned back against the bench that Angel was sitting on. He stared ahead of him at the water, wondering what on earth could be up with Angel to make her act like this towards him. He ran a hand through his hair again and tried talking with her again, this time just keeping his gaze on the water. "Ya know...you can always talk to me if something's bugging you," he said in sort of a quiet voice, just letting her know that he was there for her.
"How many times do I have to say nothing's bugging me?" Angel demanded sharply, never once glancing at him. "Everything is fine and dandy. I never get to breathe fresh air, but I'm just peachy. I never get to see the sun, but I'm fine. I never got to climb Mount Everest either. BECAUSE YOU LEFT ME! While you were off having your blasted adventures, I was hunting for you! But I couldn't find you! It never once occurred to you that I might want to come with you!" She finally glared at him. "Excuse me for being bugged, Remiel Johanson." With that, she got up and stormed away.
Remiel just sat there, taking everything Angel threw at him verbally because he knew he had deserved, well a good amount of it. He couldn't help but to wince though when she glared at him. He could understand why she was upset, but the thing was he didn't really know how to fix that now. The past is the past and now he had to deal with what he left behind. He stayed there as she stormed off for a moment before sighing as he got up and quickly caught up to her. He reached a hand out to touch her shoulder , but then pulled it back to his side, thinking that she probably didn't even want him near her at that moment. "Ang...you have every right to be angry with me. I recall though, right before I left you had been busy teaching things and hadn't wanted to go with me. What you were doing seemed important to you and I didn't want to distract you from that. And how was I supposed to know that you were searching for me. Also, half the time, I didn't even know what the heck I was doing or where I was going to end up next. One minute I wasn't do anything and the next I was doing...well, something. It was all very unpredictable." He wasn't sure what good his explanation did, but he hoped it had helped some. He didn't liked it when she seem angry or mad at him.
Angel pretended not to be listening, but she in fact was. It was so like Remiel to try to remedy every problem by coming up with excuses. She ground her foot into a rock, wishing she could crush it. At the end of his litany, she spun around and slammed her fist into his cheek. “That’s for being an ignorant ass,” she growled, before stomping off in the direction they had come. She felt slightly guilty, because part of her knew she was indeed partly to blame. But she shoved all that guilt aside with one thought: HE SHOULDN’T HAVE LEFT!
Remiel winced when she hit him and rubbed his cheek with his hand on the spot that she had done so. There would most likely end up being a bruise there soon enough. Remiel was starting to get frustrated and a bit upset with her now. "You know, nothing is going to get solved by yelling at me, scolding me, or even hitting me. If you would actually talk to me instead of walking away maybe we can fix this. And maybe you're the one who's being ignorant, since I'm obviously trying to reach out to you and figure out where the he'll all this resentment came from!" It was obvious that something was up with her and it had to do with him leaving seven years back. He was glad that he had come back, but he was starting to think Angel wasn't too happy about him being back. Sure she had been all happy and excited about it before, but lately she'd just been moody with him whenever he brought his travels up. Maybe I should just stay away from that subject from now on... He sighed in frustration and walked back over to the bench and sat down on it, giving Angel her space, since clearly to him how she was acting meant that space was what she needed. He sighed and placed his head in his hands and closed his eyes as he thought about stuff.
(A week later)
Angel stretched her arms above her head, groaning in fatigue. A very pregnant vampyr had come in earlier in desperate need of a c-section, leaving the already short-staffed night team with less people to tend the injured than usual. That meant when a newcomer came in fifteen minutes later with several broken bones, only Angel and one other healer still had enough juice to take care of him. They had just finished his healing and were now supposed to be checking up on their other patients. But as most of their other patients were no longer injured thanks to the healers, there was a quiet lull which gave Angel a chance to slump against a wall and rub her face.
